Ryan has been studying and playing various styles of music since the age of nine. Since starting in elementary school concert band, his palette of musical styles has diversified. He showed a lot of interest in rudimental snare drum when he was involved in marching band at Dondero High School, and marched all four years. His early interest in Rock and Funk eventually lead him to study their foundation in Jazz music.
Currently a senior at Wayne State University, Ryan is enrolled in the Jazz Studies program. He has had the opportunity to study with some of the greatest musicians of the Detroit jazz scene including: David Taylor, Jim Ryan, Rob Pipho, Chris Collins, Cliff Monear, and Ernie Rodgers. Outside of school Ryan continues to feed his interest in many other musical avenues; including percussion studies on Tabla, Congas, and Djembe; and also having spent a lot of time playing the didgeridoo. Outside of music Ryan is a practitioner of yoga, which helps him be more cognizant of the physical dynamics of playing an instrument, and gives him excellent tools to improve his student's concentration. He can be seen around town playing drums and/or percussion with various groups including: Will Sessions, Odu Afrobeat Orchestra, Levi Henson Trio, and Torch With a Twist.
